![]() Too much protein = dry hair, brittle feeling, tangles easilyįor wavies, too much moisture can start to weigh down the hair, so having more protein can keep the hair structured and keep the definition. Overmoisturized hair = feels gummy, “wet” even though bone dry, can’t hold much definition, can look like too much hair is falling out After a few months of CG method, hair can get overmoisturized and will need to add protein to balance it. They lose the moisture just as quick as they got it. High porosity will get wet easily (take in moisture) but will start drying very fast - typically seen with people who have 4 type hair. Hair takes forever to get wet and takes forever to dry. Low porosity in this term means, it’s hard to get moisture in and hard to get moisture out. ![]() After about 3-6 months, most can start adding protein in. Low porosity hair definitely benefits from protein! When you first start the CG method (just using sulfate/silicone free products and clarify) you’ll start out needing moisture high or low porosity as you’ll most likely have dry hair. You can also rinse out all of the conditioner - I find when wavies leave some conditioner in, it weighs down their hair or leaves a greasy film once the hair is dry. The comb is gentle but it takes longer to do. One last thing, brush your hair before you shower to collect the loose hairs and make sure you’re using a brush and not a wide toothed comb. I find these items are most cost effective as a lot of the protein enhanced CG approved are really $$, so I would get the protein mask from shea moisture. Protein products: adding actual protein filler (it’s expensive, about $40 CAD), Shea Moisture protein treatment in the blue bottle, shea moisture blue protein shampoo/conditioner. Or, it could look like a lot depending on how often you brush your hair and the density of your hair. If your hair is falling out, it could be your thyroid, eating, change in season, or too much moisture in your product. Your hair is most likely low porosity which typically means you need protein in your hair. Your shampoo and conditioner are good though. I really like gel (I use herbal essences totally twisted extra strength hold) and I only usly 1tbsp measured. I’m personally not a fan of mousse as I feel it makes my hair look dry/frizzy. If you’re new, it will be tempting to touch it but try not to or you’ll get the wet frizz again. This will help keep your from forming the wet frizz because the shirt will soak up that excess water while still keeping it “hydrated.” You can air dry or diffuse, just don’t touch your hair while wet. After that, put your hair in a tshirt for about 15 mins. On the final dunk, just squish twice (flip hair to one side, light squish, flip hair to other sids, light squish). ![]() Smooth it over your hair using praying hands, then squish it in and dunk your hair in again. Put your head over the bowl, dunk your hair in, pull it out and use 1tbsp of gel/cream. Take a popcorn bowl, fill it with water and squish your gel product or cream in. Try out the bowl method, it really helps wavies. To avoid frizz avoid touching the top layer.You’ve got wet frizz and wet frizz sucks! But, easy to remedy. ![]() When hair is completely dry, bend forward and fluff from underneath to create a lift. Bend forward and blot dry by cupping your curls in a towel. Plop – or blot your hair with an old t-shirt or a microfiber towel to remove excess moisture.Do this for all the sections collecting more water in your palms. Squish to condish – flip your head, use water and squish the conditioned hair from ends to the scalp.Those with coils can apply heat at this step for a moisture boost. Rake – when you condition, use your fingers to run through your hair and detangle.Focus on the scalp to remove the residues. No-poo, low-poo or Co-wash – recommends using sulfate, silicon and paraben free cleansers over commercial shampoos as shampoos dry out the hair.Use thicker oils in winters and something light in summers. This is a great way to detangle hair with minimum breakage. Condition for 30 minutes or overnight depending on how thirsty your hair is. Pre-poo with an oil or a rinse out conditioner.Hairdressers and curl crusaders have spent years testing what works and here are some tips that can change your curl game: Good news: once you understand the porosity of your own hair, its protein requirement and give it the care it deserves, you can actually make it work for you.
